Why We Love Low Carb
If you didn’t know by now, low carb is one of the primary ways we target fat burning and blood sugar control. We love this macronutrient shift because it provides many benefits beyond your standard low-calorie, higher carbohydrate approach for weight loss.
Low calorie, high carbohydrate eating can work for weight loss, but it requires immense willpower. Biochemically, the carbohydrates are spiking your insulin, causing blood sugar spikes and crashes. These cause hanger, fatigue, cravings, etc. Not a great way to feel. Low-carb, moderate protein and higher healthy fat however can still help you efficiently lose weight (burn fat and preserve muscle) PLUS you get the added bonus of satiety and anti-inflammatory inducing ketones (aka keto diet). And no, you do not to be in a strict keto diet to generate ketones, it is a spectrum.
You also get stable blood sugar levels, you are full longer and cravings almost completely disappear. Your brain is no longer thinking about your next meal or wanting sugar all the time. Amazing!
Furthermore, research has shown that being in a calorie deficit isn’t as necessary to lose weight when you eat low carb (mind blown!). Lastly, it is also our main approach for all things insulin resistance: diabetes, PCOS, hypoglycemia and gestational diabetes. By addressing the root cause of the insulin resistance by lowering the overall insulin levels, you can put these medical issues in remission, improve fertility and promote a healthy pregnancy and baby.
