I discovered through my own health journey of trying different eating styles that low carb, high healthy fat meals cut the cravings, offered wonderful satiety and seamlessly helped with burning body fat efficiently. Then I also noticed how it worked so well for my clients and how their bloodwork improved despite eating high saturated fat and lots of meat. Frankly, our species has eaten an animal-based diet for millions of years so this shouldn’t really be a surprise, but yet all the plant-based rhetoric clouds the common sense.
Last year (2022) it was uncovered that all but one MyPlate committee member, IE the people creating the guidelines, are being paid off by Big Food and Big Pharma. Unfortunately the dysfunction continues. The conventional way to treat Type 2 Diabetes and gestational diabetes is with pulsing high carbohydrate meals and snacks, causing these diagnoses to worsen. The majority of IBS sufferers never get their symptoms resolved. Pregnant women believe that a one-a-day prenatal is providing their baby with optimal levels of nutrients yet all prenatals are lacking optimal levels of almost all micronutrients and are missing DHA and choline. Emotional eaters believe that if they can just figure out a way to command enough willpower, their dieting struggles will be solved.
At Thrive Nutrition, we are all about root-cause resolutions. I want our clients to be educated and empowered to know what is best for their bodies. Instead of focusing on the meaningless BMI chart, we pay attention more meaningful metrics like waist circumference and triglyceride to HDL ratio. In lieu of telling clients with IBS to increase their fiber and take a probiotic, we assess the gut microbiome with a stool test and uncover the true cause of the IBS and resolve it. Diabetes is our view a carbohydrate allergy, we address it with a low carbohydrate diet -> prioritizing protein, filling up on fat and customizing carbohydrates based on biometrics. With low carb eating, it’s amazing how much the body gets back into equilibrium. We work with pregnant women and women for preconception nutrition to get their body primed for the high demand of pregnancy. We help clients heal from emotional eating, breaking the vicious binge dieting cycle for good.

My interest in establishing Thrive Nutrition started when I realized that it was hard to create customized dietary advice in corporate wellness settings that diverged from the USDA MyPlate guidelines (low fat, high grains/carbohydrate intake, seed oils over saturated fat, etc.). The truth is, the MyPlate guidelines only work for a small subset of the population: those that are already metabolically healthy (though it’s still not the healthiest dietary advice). Yet these are the guidelines used universally in schools, hospitals, nursing homes and provided for the general population
