Most People Gain Back The Fat They Lost + How You Can Avoid I
Why is it hard to stay lean???? We know that in order to lose weight you need to take in less calories than you burn IE to lose weight you need to burn more. BUT the problem is that there is not an emphasis on HOW you burn. Cardio, like jogging, is usually regarded as the best because it burns the “most calories” in a session. This is the WORST advice.
We ignore the real value of exercise, which is how we can train our body to adapt. Meaning, we need to focus on exercise that changes our physique by building muscle.
Over time, steady state cardio prioritizes energy conservation and efficiency. This endurance type training increases your stamina, but also reduces your strength.
If you’re going to be an efficient cardio machine, it takes muscle down and reduces your calorie burn. Half of the weight you lose from cardio is MUSCLE. Now you’re smaller, but still at the same body fat percentage and with a slower metabolism….
And because you get so efficient (getting faster over time at the same heart rate), eventually you stop seeing progress unless you go further, run faster or run longer. HELLO overuse injuries!
Strength-based training burns less calories during your session, but your metabolism is 🔥🔥🔥 for up to 2 days post workout. You are also building muscle, which powers up your metabolism. Strength-based training also encourages variety (periodization) which prevents stalls.
Start with body weights, get familiar with dumbbells, kettlebells and barbells! Another problem is that we don’t eat enough protein: aim for around 1 gram/lb ideal body weight each day from animal-based sources!
