Lifestyle Disease Increases Mortality Rate of COVID-19
We've been told that age and gender have a lot to do with the prognosis of COVID-19, with people age 50 and older are around 2-and-a-half times more likely to progress to a severe case. As researchers continue to learn more about the virus, it's being discovered that lifestyle disease raises the odds of the severity of COVID-19.
Lifestyle diseases are diseases linked with the way people live their life. These are non-communicable diseases. They are commonly caused by a combination of lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating, alcohol, drugs and smoking. Diseases that mostly have an effect on our lifestyle are heart disease, stroke, obesity and type II diabetes.
Overall, patients that had COVID-19 with underlying medical conditions including hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) were 2 to 3 times more likely to progress to severe illness. From the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. According to data from the CDC and American College of Cardiology, roughly 45% of all Americans have some form of CVD. In regards to diabetes, the CDC issued a crude estimate of 34.2 million people of all ages—or 10.5% of the US population—had diabetes in 2018 (the latest stats on diabetes). Shockingly, another 84.1 million had pre-diabetes, a serious medical condition that most people still don't even know they have! Why people don't know is a whole other topic, but the main point is that our US population is very unhealthy!
Age and gender aren't things we can generally change, but we can certainly change our risk for lifestyle disease (whether diagnosed or "pre" conditions). That is why we just released a health coaching program as a more cost-effective way to help those seeking lifestyle guidance during this uncertain time. Changing habits isn't always easy, but it is possible and more likely to be long term with expertise and guidance. And now with a second option of 5 appointments, health coaching is now a reality for even more people!
Health Coaching is a great alternative to our Nutrition Memberships because they offer support and guidance without getting into the clinical aspect of lab testing and specific nutrition protocols. Our health coaching goes beyond nutrition and will also provide lifestyle tips for sleep, stress and exercise. It is a great option for those who want to improve their own health and for people who desire a healthier family.
Through our signature 3 Month Health Coaching Membership we will provide step-by-step instructions to create permanent positive changes for your health and well-being. Each Membership option includes an initial 45-Minute Consultation call spent reviewing your health questionnaire and then deciding which membership option of either 5 or 10 appointments works best for you and your goals.
